CE Dealer Team salvages points from challenging Riga World RX double header
Construction Equipment Dealer Team drivers Niclas Grönholm and Klara Andersson fought hard during a challenging FIA World Rallycross Championship double header in Riga, Latvia - the second race weekend of the team's ground-breaking journey into the new all-electric rallycross era.
The Nordic duo faced changing weather conditions, incidents and technical challenges, but fought through to salvage valuable points.
The first day of action saw Niclas Grönholm securing a heat victory and making it to the final, before an electrical issue caused by heavy contact from a competitor put an early end to his hopes.
The Finn managed to make it to the final on Sunday as well, finishing fifth.
"This weekend has been difficult overall as we were struggling with the pace a bit and encountered some issues. But I would still say the feeling was better than in Norway and we learned a lot during what has been an educational weekend. We have clear vision on what to try next in Portugal," said Niclas Grönholm.
Klara Andersson, the only female driver in the top-tier of an FIA World Championship this year, fought hard in the double header weekend but missed out on the final rounds.
She did nonetheless secure a total of 17 points and trails team-mate Niclas Grönholm by just two points in the overall standings.
"It has been a challenging weekend. We tried a lot of things during the weekend, both in wet and dry conditions. And this has been valuable for our development, although we hoped for better results this weekend. The Riga circuit is a technically tough circuit, but I am overall happy with the development I have made regarding my driving and I'm looking forward to the next round," said Klara Andersson.
CE Dealer Team continues an intense FIA World Rallycross Championship schedule, leaving Latvia for Portugal where the third round of the 2022 season awaits in a fortnight.
"We are obviously not happy until we are on top of the podium. But this is early days still in our programme and we know which areas we need to work on. Niclas, Klara, as well as everyone in the team, improved their performance under the tough and hectic circumstances this double header weekend. We are going to recharge our batteries and fight back in the coming round, that's for sure," said Jussi Pinomäki, Team Manager of CE Dealer Team.
